I just bought a 4th generation Tablo and I have it starting to record shows. Now i’m having problems with watching the recordings.
Most of the recordings try to start but fail and go right back to the episodes page but there is 1 series which plays fine. This is on a Roku Ultra. Here’s a video showing what’s happening. PXL_20260205_234501466.TS.mp4. It’s frustrating that some recordings work and others don’t. It would seem they would either all work or none work.
No, unfortunately it didn’t. I don’t think it has anything to do with the Roku Ultra. I have a Roku Streaming Stick+ which works fine on the bedroom TV but when I tried the Stick+ on the family room TV it still didn’t work and did the same thing.
I tried turning Audio Compatibility OFF, but that didn’t work. When I tried to play the recorded episode, Tablo showed dialog box about turning Audio Compatibility ON. If I hit OK and turn Audio Compatibility ON, the episode fails to play as before. If I hit CANCEL, the Tablo doesn’t even try to play the episode.
Just for clarification, Audio Compatibility Mode (ACM) WILL NOT fix old recordings, but new recordings that are recorded with ACM on should be playable (assuming this was the problem).
Also, double-check, but I know some of the plus (+) versions of the Roku Stick are NOT compatible with Tablo.
Okay so you’re saying that if ACM was off when those shows were recorded, they may not be playable. However if ACM is on now than any new recording should be playable?
KGBnut is correct in his diagnosis. Roku had an issue with firmware ver.14. And going forward the recording should act as normal with Audio Compatibility Mode turned on. You will just have to try and catch reruns of the recordings that were recorded prior to turning ACM on. You could try deleting the Tablo app on the Roku, restart the Roku, the reinstall the Tablo app…but again that may not fix the old recordings, Don’t worry you will not loose anything like settings when removing/reinstalling the Tablo app. Just make sure you DO NOT factory reset the Roku…just restart to clear the cache. FYI my Roku Streaming Stick + works fine. I believe the newer Streaming Stick 4K will give you problems because it is only HD.
I do not know how the Streaming Stick 4K (+) problem manifests itself, nor do I know if ACM has any impact on the error. I only know that Tablo says there can be a problem, and that the device is ‘not supported.’ This says to me that they know that there is a conflict with this device, and they either can’t fix it; don’t know how to fix it; or can’t afford to fix it. I have also heard from some people that they have no problem with theirs. If yours is now working, I wouldn’t worry about it.
From Tablo’s statement:
*HD-only Roku streaming sticks may exhibit intermittent issues with displaying content and are generally not supported. The current Roku Streaming Stick Plus (4K) (3830) is also not supported as it does not have the video codecs required for playback of over-the-air TV. Other older low-end Roku devices and those that do not support 4K (for example, the Roku Streaming Stick 3800 and Roku Express+ 3910) are also not supported.
I think KGBnut has the answer the HD only Streaming Stick does not have the capability to “decode” Standard Definition TV…A bad choice I think by Roku for putting that out there. Good for most Netflix, Hulu…etc but bad for streaming SD formatted TV.
Fortunately solid on my now discontinued Roku Soundbar. Hopefully Roku continues to provide OS updates for a while longer.
The new model has far smaller speakers and specs.
