4th gen tablo video freezes and out of sync with audio - live and recording

recently. my 4th gen tablo has been doing this more and more, and is very frustrating and makes using it almost not feasible.

happens with live and recorded shows.

the video will freeze, but the audio does not, hitting play/pause will usually continue the video, but now the audio and video is out of sync by several seconds. using fast forward will get them back in sync but it skips to the very end of the recorded show, and then i have to rewind back to where i was. from what i remember fast forward solves it when in live mode.

on recorded shows the seek bar when hitting pause, shows it completely filled like its at the end of the show, even though its somewhere in the middle.

I have rebooted and reset the tablo, and it is still doing it. I am 4 months out of warranty, and this definetely started while still in warranty. I should have replaced it under warranty…

I have a couple of questions.

What streaming device are you using? If you have more than one viewing station, are you having this problem on all of them? What if you connect and view on your phone?

Do you have an external hard drive on your Tablo? What kind, and how big? Also, how full is your storage?

You mentioned that you tried rebooting the Tablo. Did you reboot the router? Also, did you clear the cache on your streaming device? For some, this is as simple as restarting the device, for others there are some additional steps.

I hope this is helpful.

Here is a response I received from Tablo support, I had to actually make these changes to the Roku settings, hope it solves the problem.

'm sorry to hear about the issues you’re experiencing with your 4th Gen Tablo and Hisense Roku TV. This problem might be related to a known issue with the Roku OS 14 update. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

  1. In SETTINGS for the Roku device itself (not the Tablo Roku app), navigate to: AUDIO → DIGITAL OUTPUT FORMAT → CUSTOM.
  2. Make sure DOLBY DIGITAL is selected for the DOLBY section - leave the DTS setting disabled.
  3. Return to your Tablo app and try playing an OTA channel again.

If the above does not resolve the issue, attempt the same steps but instead of CUSTOM select STEREO. This may resolve the problem.
