I tried to search to see if this problem has been brought up but not the most robust search engine so apologies if it has.
4th gen that works perfectly off the internal storage for both viewing and recording but wanted to expand storage. Added a 2TB Seagate external drive, formatted it and scheduled some shows to record. They recorded but if there is any kind of fast action scene, it starts to slightly stutter. Now I’ve plugged in a Nvme SSD drive with USB adapter and it plays perfectly. Does the HDD not have enough bandwith/speed to work or have I not set up something I should have? Will use the Nvme but it’s only 500gb and I know they aren’t recommended for longevity.
Thanks for any guidance or help.
What model Seagate drive is it?
Seagate Portable 2TB External Hard Drive HDD — USB 3.0 for PC, Mac, PlayStation, & Xbox -1-Year Rescue Service (STGX2000400)
As near as I can tell, it’s the one recommended by Tablo and the users on Reddit. It has a data transfer rate of 120mbps whereas the Nvme drive, even through the USB 3.0 port on the Tablo can transfer up to 500mbps but probably averages closer to 350-400mbps.
I had another external drive around, some cheap knockoff but had no bad sectors when tested and it did exactly the same thing.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Well, the HDD itself will be the limiting factor (as opposed to the USB 2.0 speed of the Tablo interface). Even so, that should be way more than sufficient for video transfers. The fact that the NVME drive is OK, suggests its something to do with the HDD - maybe its a dud???
Just happened today. The same problem with my quad legacy Tablo. Go to all recordings and get booted back to Roku menu. If I quickly move to tv shows instead of all I am able to connect. No problem on my Sony tv Tablo app or my IPad app.
Are you powering the hard drive through the Tablo or its own power supply? If you are running it through the Tablo, it might not have enough power.
