Apartment dwellers usually can only use indoor antennas but only have good reception for various channels at different locations. So it would be smart if someone made a network DVR which recorded with network streams that came from multiple tuners on the network.
The DVR possibly could either record the raw signal (not certain if mpeg-2 can be sent in separate packets on Ethernet and/or WiFi) or have transcoding done with the tuners or on the DVR.
I personally use powerline Ethernet to connect to most devices but the tuners could connect using either Wi-Fi, Ethernet and/or MoCA.
This all means that the DVR and the tuner(s) are all separate devices that work together.
Isn’t this basically multiple hdhomeruns connected into plex on a nvidia shield.
It looks like you’re blurring over-the-air broadcast “signals” with network streaming services.
Internet/network streaming vs OTA broadcasting RF signals isn’t interchangeable natiavly.
It appears you are correct and they now have the SERVIO so you don’t need plex but they do have quite a few limitations and no longer offer single tuners. But according to them you can only watch live tv on Roku with no quick channel changing. I am looking for less complexity than what they are offering.
No I’m not!
The tuners would strip out the mpeg-2 encoding from the OTA stream and either transcode it to the DVR encoding format or send as it as the mpeg-2 (if mpeg-2 can be sent in ethernet/wi-fi packets aka the network)
Zippy has multiple devices interconnecting multiple technologies it’s not as straight forward as just “this”

ok, I misread, I though you wanted to record network streams. DVR records with network streams…
What I would really like is if Tablo would create this setup that I am conceiving and HdHomeRun apparently has already done (With lot’s of streaming limitations since they don’t fully support all the streaming platforms and I don’t want to now buy an NVidia shield). Basically, I want 1 DVR/Control Center/Guide which connects with multiple TV tuners (over the intranet) . With Tablo now I would have to buy multiple DVR’s (which include tuners) that I would have to constantly make time consuming switches to connect with the different DVR’s and likely have different channel guides on each.
Tablo seems to support all the meaningful streaming platforms which HdHomeRun doesn’t or at least not fully.
