Update from Our CEO on the Recent Service Outage

Nowhere have I seen an explanation for why some programs had changed to Airings while others remained Episodes.

Or why those programs with Airings reverted back to Episodes before the recording problem was cleared up.

I noted this several times during The Great Snafu and never saw a single acknowledgment or explanation of why or how that change occurred.

It is unlikely that Airings issue had anything to do with third party servers and more to do with a version control failure.

When can we see a post mortem with release notes and lessons learned?

Blah, blah, blah…

I got the email, but I had the clear my cache, reboot 3 times, check my router setup, wait 15.9 minutes…etc before I could read it. Then my computer froze.

Well, it seems a post-mortem by the CEO , for the most part, is well received. I use to write these as a Tech Consultant with a large Multi-national Telecom firm after Fiber-cuts, mass outages, etc… No fun! ā€œOffline Mode,ā€ sounds excellent! Cheers!

Thank you very much for this update. Other companies should take a lesson

As of Aug 19, 2026 AT 330pm PST, my Tablo is still not functioning properly. I can record SINGLE EPiSODES but there are still many programs which I cannot set up as a SERIES record. For example, I cannot setup a SERIES record for ā€œGeneral Hospitalā€ or ā€œAmerica’s Got Talent.ā€ However, I can setup a SERIES record for ā€œLet’s Make A Deal.ā€

Further, I hadn’t checked on my iPhone 15 – I can record a SINGLE EPISODE but when I select SERIES record, the response is ā€œFailed to Load. The requested content was not found.ā€ So, I guess it’s just not a Tablo device issue …

I submitted a ticket today (Aug 19th) and I’m waiting for a reply.

Does anyone else still have this issue?

Ivan in Phoenix …

This product has so many SNAFU’s in it that it gives computer science a bad name.

Here is one example. They have a guide menu item called Sports. It has a ribbon called Featured Sports. I have 14 college football games over the next 14 days on 5 different channels. College Football not in the Featured Sports. And neither is MLB.

But there is NBA, College Basketball, and NHL.

I was going to say, ā€œIt’s because they’re now anti-Canadianā€, but, then you said NHL… (College Football being NCAA, but there’s Simon Fraser… sigh).

Thank you – outages happen. But – please deliver offline mode for Gen4 Tablos. It’s a huge loss coming from Legacy Tablo where I can watch over-air and recordings after loss of broadband. Gen4 is simply totally useless during those critical times. You guys have ā€˜teased’ us with this off-line feature proposal – please deliver it as you will make many customers happy and make your company more competitive. Thanks.

I actually only used the gen 4 to test to see if the apps have gotten any better after a new release. It’s usually powered off.

So 60 days ago I turned it on to test some app releases. So when viewing the programing using the guild it was slowly disappearing for the last 4-6 weeks. When it finally blew I repeatedly tested CBS’s 60 minutes and big brother to see if record all would eventually work.

Monday I had to have them reset the guide. I can now record all 60 minutes and big brother but when you go to Library All and click on either The app says there are no scheduled airings and no upcoming airings.

So I reported it back to support and the response was it was because my tablo unit hadn’t been rebooted in 60 days. I have multiple OG gen 1’s from 2014 that probably haven’t been rebooted in 2 years.

But there are always users that fell off the turnip truck and believe that this is normal.

Don’t click it. It just takes you bavk to the same nessage at the too of this thread.

I am with Mike on this one. This offline mode option has been promised for about a year now. It will be a game changer when the servers are acting up and all you really need is to view or record a local channel that should be stored on your Tablo device.

This is where supplementing with PSIP would be useful! :slightly_smiling_face:

If we get both offline mode and PSIP guide supplementation, the Tablo could continue to function, even during extended server outages. PSIP could also be useful for filling in missing guide data.

I don’t expect any big features changes till there’s a gen 5 tablo, and I believe that is minimum 2/3 years off due to the regulatory disputes.
In the meantime let’s hope for more reliability, and basic functions that work better. Consistency in day to day performance.

Well its still not fixed. Any channel I try to select to record or watch…

What does this even mean? Are legacy Tablo devices just being left out in the cold? I want a little clarity because I planned to wait for ATSC 3.0 before upgrading but if we’re never getting some of these updates I can reevaluate my options.

Even the Legacy Tablo are bricks if the internet goes down
and you get a power interruption at the same time. A frequent problem for those of us in rural communities. When they come up after a power outage and there’s no internet you can’t use them with any official Tablo app. Interestingly unofficial apps still work in that case. As far as I can tell a simple update to the app that just used the last known IP or scanned the network for it would have solved the issue for viewing recorded programs and watching live TV. An additional small tweak that let Tablo grab time from somewhere other than the internet(like your phone) would have fixed the remaining issue. These aren’t huge changes and clearly 3rd parties managed at least the one task.

Sorry you’re running into that.

Have you reached out to Tablo Support? They should be able to help.

Interesting re: Legacy Table. I’ve lost broadband frequently during storms but not power. Tablo legacy over-air and recordings work great after loss of broadband but never tested loss of broadband and power as all my home network gear and Tablo are on UPS so never have a power outage for network gear. UPS keeps all running until portable generator feeds some power to the UPS. I’m thrilled to have the Legacy Tablo feed over-air and recordings through the house when broadband is down. Can’t stream but can sure watch over-air and recordings. Would love to see that in Gen 4 (or Gen 5 if needed :))

YES! Definitely build a very robust offline mode that can be used to perform the Tablo’s most basic functions including watching live TV, playback, and recording on a scedule
