Unable to select Series recording

For some stations and series The tablo cannot find upcoming airings, even though they show properly in the channel guide. So it won’t allow you to record the series. You can, however, record individual airings from the channel guide.

if you press upcoming Airings, it will show the upcoming episodes. But if you select schedule series recordings It will allow you to record new or all episodes, but the Selection doesn’t stick and scheduled it will show nothing is scheduled.

So far this has happened on the PBS NewsHour and ABC High Potential.

Just to double-check, is this on a 4th Generation Tablo or legacy? Also, what device are you viewing on, and does it happen with multiple devices?

fourth generation? Yes.
Device? Older Roku through HDMI
Multiple devices? Not tested.

I don’t believe this problem is related to the playback device.

I discovered this problem by selecting an upcoming PBS NewsHour entry in the program guide. When the screen appeared to record, I pressed series recording. When the record all or record new screen appeared, I selected record new. I repeated this process multiple times because after leaving The series record All–New Screen, I’ve discovered that it was not registering my selection. When I returned to this screen, for instance it didn’t say cancel series recording.

I Then selected series information and it correctly showed all of the upcoming episodes. However, When I selected upcoming episodes, none were shown - possibly because the series recording was never properly accepted.

I repeated this process with the same results a couple times. Finally I chose to record Just the Episode I had selected from the channel guide and then worked fine.

One other possible symptom. after finishing The above I was suffering buffering and decided to re-power the Tablo. It kept saying that it needed to operate off-line. I re-powered it again and got the same message but this time I didn’t do anything and it moved on to the home screen of the tablet.. however, the channel guide was missing completely. All other screens worked fine.

please let me know if I can help you reproduce this problem. One possible improvement would be to have a confirmation message after selecting new or all series recordings. currently, When it works successfully, there is a checkbox showing which option you selected and an additional button to cancel the series recording. When this error occurs neither one of those two things happens, but a popuo message might still be helpful..

I will also try to reproduce his problem again and report additional details in this thread.

What happens when you select Record All Episodes? PBS has a hard time telling you when there is a new episode compared to a repeat.

it didn’t matter whether I selected New or All. In both Cases, my selection never actually Registered. When it works correctly, after selecting all or new, you will see an additional button below to cancel series Recording. This additional button to cancel never appeared I don’t believe my selection was being acknowledged. And because of this the upcoming episodes to be recorded Remained blank.

I’m having same problem with the today show on NBC. I have a new Tablo. I don’t have any more than one or two shows recorded. When I select the today show from the schedule, it will only allow me to record episode and doesn’t recognize it as a series. I can record each episode in the future by going to it in the guide and selecting each one but it is not recognized as a series or even give the option to record as a series.

I’ve had the same problem. When I go to record “Jeopardy,” for example, there is no longer the option to “record all episodes” or “record new episodes” or any option at all other than “record this episode only.” I used to select “record all new episodes” for everything I wanted to record, but it just disappeared a few months ago! Even with the update I installed just today, I still don’t have that option. (I was hoping the update would solve the problem.) Hulu has a week’s worth of “Jeopardy” now, so I just watch any missed episodes there.

We’d like to look into this. Would you provide us with the following?

  • What devices does this issue show up on?
  • What path are you taking to reach the recoding option (i.e., live > future airing > etc)?
  • Are you running into error messages? If so, could you send us a screenshot?
  • Is this only happening on certain shows, or all shows?

This does appear to be the same problem I am experiencing. Still looking for ways to reproduce or fix.

*My device is Tablo gen 4, dual tuner.
*I selected an episode from the guide that would air within an hour. The screen showed record episode and record series. Record episode worked. Selecting Record series presented the record new/all option popup. But selection of either of these options did NOT show the additional selection of cancel series recording as expected!
*No errors were shown.
*Im still working on finding a pattern of when this happens that is reproducable.

By device we also men what device are you using with your Tablo (Roku, Apple TV, ect.)?

I’m having the same issue with the same setup (4th Gen Tablo, Roku, etc.). It works for some shows and doesn’t work for others. I haven’t found a pattern yet.

I believe @Rappin answered this earlier in the thread - it’s a Roku device.

Instead of using the Live grid does it work if you use the Shows guide.

@zippy I was using the Shows Guide when I noticed the problem. Just now, I tried going through Live Grid instead. This time, I got a message saying “An error has occurred - Error Loading Airing Details” with no further information.

More detailed info:
I went to Shows → ABC → Abbott Elementary → Record New Episodes. At this point, I get a checkmark next to “Record New Episodes”; however, I don’t get the “Cancel Series Recording” option to appear. And when I hit the back button, there is no blue checkmark on the Abbott Elementary icon. It’s not setting the series recording even though the guide shows that a new episode is airing on January 7. However, going through all the same steps works fine for “ABC World New Tonight”.

So, how did you know that the servers were offline and now back online? Is there a place to view their status?
