'Tested' Hard Drives

But I think there is still a large “knee” in the pricing-curve above 4 TB, right?

That’s a great point. I’m reading all this to decide on a 2TB 2.5 internal hard drive. There should be a list of recommended hard drives. Seagate Sata 2.5 and WD Blue Sata 2.5 is Tablo’s list. A Tablo tech making suggestions after the fact is aggravating.

Just a follow-up to my Aug 2018 post -

The LaCie d2 Thunderbolt 2, 4TB USB 3.0 7200RPM Desktop External Hard Drive (STEX4000400)] is still working great, even after moving it to a new Quad a few months ago.

So are these all external drives or drives for the Quad using SATA, or what? Loaded question.

The tablo quad has USB 2 for external connections, my D2 Thunderbolt / USB 3 Lacie drive is overkill, but a brand and model I trust.

The internal connection found in the Quad is SATA, (limited to 2.5" [laptop] drives)

Hope that answers your question.

I said it was a loaded question, I noticed nobody appears to be specifying which Tablo they are testing against for the most part. I assume the Quad on SATA has a far larger hard drive base that’ll work, at least of the 2.5 inch variety… I assume any 2.5 inch drive should work with the Quad on the SATA connector.

(7mm or 9.5mm) 2.5-inch internal SATA drives are supported.

COMMENTS. Started with a FireCuda, did not work (but not yet confirmed bad), never got a prompt to format in startup wizard. Tried barracuda, same problem :frowning: Tried many many things. Solved by logging in to the Quad with a different device, which gave me toe format prompt, and it all ended well.

COMMENTS: Works great in the Quad, just pop it in and light it up. Formats in about a minute and let’s you easily push it to the top limits both live and recording. It seems like the price jumped back up to $77, but under $60 was nice while it lasted. Apparently someone hosed the listing temporarily because the 1TB model is $59.99 now?

Are you pushing the drive or the tablo “to the top limits”??

FireCuda SSHD is purpose-built for intense speed, superior gaming, sustained abuse, and the lowest latency. Gamers can benefit from performance 5× faster than standard HDDs and more capacity than SSDs .

It’s unlikely even the tablo quad with all it’s simultaneous recordings and outbound streams can even come close to theses “limits”. And the tablo doesn’t choke with transfer rate limited to USB 2.0 rates.

I assume neither, so I guess more accurate to say that I don’t have it throttled (to 8, 6 or even 3MB) and both live and recording are set to 10MB. I hope that using a wired 1GB enet connex I am getting the best I can hope for, regardless of what is theoretical / claimed vice actual performance.

Anyone tried the Seagate Backup Plus Ultra Touch 2TB. Model is STHH2000600? It is at Costco for $70. I didn’t see this model number in this thread. Thanks
