Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.3.0 & 1.3.1)

Hi folks -

An update to the 4th Generation Tablo app for Roku is now available, featuring the new Category View for live TV and many other bug fixes and performance improvements.

You should see the update shortly, but if you’d like to get it right away, navigate to the Tablo app on your Roku device’s home screen and hit the star button (*) on your Roku remote. Then select ‘Check for Updates’.

Here’s what you can expect:

Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.3.0)

• Adds new Category View for Live TV
• Improvements to search functionality
• Fix for issues with adding or removing a channel from Favorites
• Fix for issues with Offline Mode, including live TV channel ordering
• Fix for issue where fresh channel scans appeared not to be saved
• Many other bug fixes and performance enhancements

About This Release

The new Category View groups major local networks, your favorite channels, and other related programming together within the grid guide, making it even easier to browse and discover shows that match your interests.

By grouping channels with similar content instead of arbitrarily by channel number, you can quickly hop through the grid and find something great to watch, whether you want to laugh, check out the news, or learn something new.

We hope you enjoy it!

The classic Channels Grid View will still be available, and you can switch your view at any time. Your chosen view will remain your default selection until you change it, even if you close and relaunch the Tablo app.

UPDATE - Dec 2 -1:40 p.m.

A subset of users are reporting some odd behavior with the 1.3.0 update, which we believe is caused by cached data.

If you’re experiencing:

  • Blank guide screen
  • Inability to play back over-the-air TV channels
  • Inability to change the Live TV grid view by selecting the GUIDE OPTIONS button

Please take the following steps to delete & re-add the app:

  • Navigate to the Tablo app on your Roku’s home screen
  • Hit the star button (*)
  • From the menu select REMOVE APP
  • Then from the Roku home screen select SEARCH
  • Then type TABLO
  • Then select the Tablo app from the search results
  • Then select ADD APP

This should clear the cache and resolve any issues you’re encountering. If not, please share specific details of what you’re seeing below.

If you have any other questions or problems with this update, post them below or touch base directly with support.

I had to get out of category view. The category shouldn’t change as I scroll up and down the guide. It should stay on the category that I select until changed. It’s not useful to me as it is now.

As soon as this update was pushed, my reception became horrible. OTA channels that had great reception are now unwatchable or showing no signal at all. No changes were made with anything on my end–same antenna, antenna not moved–but I can’t watch any OTA channels after the update.
Is there any way to to go back to previous version on Roku?
Also, when I click on Guide Options, it just goes to my Roku home screen, so I can’t get out of the horrible Category View.

My ota reception was not impacted.

Wondering if the “amplifier” setting was toggled one way or the other post update? Might be worth checking. And forgive me for not knowing what the setting is actually called (I don’t own a 4th gen)

I did check that. It was Off, as it should be, because my antenna has an amplifier. I did try turning it On, but that didn’t help.

When I attach the antenna directly to my TV and use the Roku app for Live TV, reception is great. It’s only the Tablo that get the OTA channels.

Mine is working just fine, but I did choose not to use the category views.

I waited a while and checked again. Reception is back to normal. And i was able to change to Channel View. Not sure what happened, but all is good now!

When I tried to change back to classic view, by selecting the Guide Options button, the app exited back to the Roku Home Screen. See my other comments in the Beta 2.2.56 message thread.

Now for my “soapbox” comments about the new category grid screen. I don’t want to start in the featured category each time I start the app. Why can’t it remember that I want to start with favorites. Isn’t that the purpose for having a favorites setting? Also, what determines the featured channels? The selections don’t make any sense to me.

In general, any feature update that requires more button presses to get to a highly used feature is just BAD. Does Roku do any customer testing with its users? As part of a Beta group, I never saw an early release of the v1.3.0 app.

Please sort Channels View/Favorites in display channel number order.

Your preferred view should be what you see every time you re-launch the app.

If that’s not what you’re seeing, try deleting & re-adding the app.

I deleted and reinstalled the app. Selected Favorites category then exited the app. Once again, when I go to Live, it starts on Featured.

At least now, when I select the Guide Options the configuration screen comes up (instead of exiting the app). It remembers the setting for Favorites when configured for Channels View.

I seem to remember in the past while I was recording live tv I had an option to “Play from beginning”. Now I have to end recording to see that option

I had issues with the guide options not working, so I went through the fix, and now it works. However, my issue is now that I can select Channels View and then Favorites, all of my favorites are in random order, and not in order by the OTA channel number like they were previously. Can this be fixed?

I have the same issue. My OTA channels were in order by channel number prior to this update. Now, they just appear in a random order.

@rmb3005 , the random channel order issue is something the product team is aware of and working on.

Yep same issue

Just want to thank you people at Tablo for being responsive to the issues brought up here!
