Tablo problems started after leaving Spectrum TV

Roku TV could not find Tablo. After multiple resetting, the channels are shown but what is scheduled to play. is blank or has short diagonal lines. A lot of buffering with the Roku TV. Not as much with an Apple Ipad. Was working well before we cancelled Spectrum TV. I had told Spectrum the reason I was cancelling Spectrum was because we have a Tablo. My wife thinks I’m paranoid for thinking cancelling Spectrum TV would have any effect on Tablo.

It seems fishy to me. What else could it be?

I doubt that Spectrum would cause the problem, especially since you can connect with the iPad.

How are the Tablo & Roku TV connected? (ethernet or wifi), and how good of a connection do you have if it is wifi?

When you cancelled Spectrum, did your Internet service change at all? Did you get a new modem/router?

This problem sounds network related. You’re going to have to provide more details about it to get a proper resolution. Did Spectrum somehow break your network? It’s possible but incompetence is more likely then malice.

I had hundreds of pictures (subjects unknown to me) in a file located under Networks (if I remember correctly) The name on that file was the same as my router name with a (-2) added. Working on securing my system. (Our guest Wi-Fi was unlocked)

We kept Spectrum for internet and land line. We have basic Spectrum TV. No local stations.

All connections between Tablo and Roku are Wi-Fi. I’ll have to investigate how to test Wi-Fi connections before I can comment on how good they are.

I’m going to have to agree it most likely wasn’t spectrum behind this. Last night, in order to allow my wife to watch the Packers, I tried connecting two of our smaller TV sets directly to the antenna lead. Both said no connection. This morning I tried again and one set worked and than, connecting the antenna lead to the Tablo, it is working on some devices.

We did not get a new modern/router.

Does the antenna lead actually end at a real antenna, or are you just using the same coax cable from Spectrum that they used to send TV channels to you?

The antenna lead goes to the antenna in the attic.

I believe the problem is:

  1. We have an old house. The walls are plaster with metal lath. The metal lath acts almost like a shield, disrupting high-frequency radio signals. Cell phones not connect to our Wi-Fi have to be outside for a call to be made.
  2. Our router. With a 40’ Ethernet cable (tripping hazard) between the Tablo and the router, no buffering was observed and we gained 8 new channels. I’m going to try a Netgear nighthawk ac1750 Wireless Router And Netgear Ac1200 Range Extender. With the range extender connected to the Tablo.

I can not explain why the two TV’s did not have a signal when connect to the antenna lead. Another mystery for me to dig into as I have time.

Thank you for your concern.

If you mean incompetence on my part, I have to agree 100%. I don’t have the experience required to be competent. Although maybe a little cheapskate also since I didn’t renew malwarebytes.

A 40’ Ethernet cable between the Tablo and router has solved the buffering problem and gained 8 new channels and a tripping hazard. I’m going to try a Netgear nighthawk ac1750 Wireless Router And Netgear Ac1200 Range Extender to eliminate the tripping hazard.

I think the 40’ Ethernet cable proved you’re prognoses was correct.

Thank you!

Your questioning my Wi-Fi connection was right on. A 40’ Ethernet cable solved the buffering problem.

Thank you!

I meant the incompetence of the people they send out. Every time someone goes to my sisters house from the internet company they reset everything which is fine but they never change the default admin passwords afterward. It’s a big security issue.

I’ve had my own issues with ISP tech people as well. I told him what was broken then I sat on the phone and let him hold my hand doing all the stuff their script makes them try. All things I had already tried. I also explained my dual network setup that he could not grasp. He asked “Why do you need two networks?” and said “You can’t do that”. Pretty standard stuff now. even if it was strange back then. Then I explained once again my credentials and that my cable modem was dead. I do have industry recognized credentials. I just needed a new cable modem because mine was dead. I even gave him the trouble shooting tests that led me to the conclusion. By the end of the phone call I cancelled my service but they sent out a technician anyway. His conclusion… I needed a new cable modem.
