Hey, welcome to the community. We’ve had ups and downs while Tablo worked out some issues, and because our network wasn’t optimized for all the different devices on it. Once I reviewed and reworked my network, we haven’t had any issues. Everything was reviewed and updated - from the router, mesh network, cables to the switches and streaming devices.
Hopefully you’ll do something similar and will find something small that’s causing your problems.
My 4th Gen Tablo setup went perfectly and I’ve been using it for close to a year with no issues. I have it connected with WiFi on a 2-puck mesh system. My old TV worked fine using a Roku add-on device and then I got a built-in Roku Hisense TV. Everything was still working fine. My network is the highest broadband in my area. I didn’t connect with Ethernet because the Tablo/TV is too far away and WiFi was working just fine.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I watched a channel on Tablo just fine and then 4 days later it wouldn’t connect. I did the whole reset numerous times, got a ticket and had support telling me to try this, try that … numerous times. Nothing has worked. It logs in to my network (support at my carrier said they see it connected) but it tries for 5-10 minutes and then sends a FAIL screen.
Is this unit toast? I asked support if my warranty is expired but I haven’t heard back from them.
UPDATE: It was purchased September 2024 so it IS still under warranty. Replacement time!!!
You should be able to see when the unit last phoned home to the tablo servers and what LAN IP it was using. That can be compared to the address your router has assigned to the tablo unit, etc, etc.
I can understand some folks having problems with the Tablo, and it may seem like it is a failed product to you, but I can assure you that the Tablo is not trash. For the price, it is a very good deal, and it does what it is supposed to do. The Tablo team is responsive to customer suggestions and problems. In the few months that I have owned it, they have made many positive software changes. My Tablo has never missed a recording, and the picture quality is good. It is not perfect, but I think it is one of the best values right now.
Occasionally, there will be a failed unit right out of the box, but usually most issues are caused by problems with the customer’s network, or antenna reception problems.
One of my Roku televisions started acting up. I tried everything, even moved the tv to the computer room where the router is located. Nothing worked. I then decided to do something that I never did before and is never, if ever, mentioned in the community. I did a “Network Connection Reset” on the Roku and did the network setup. Its been working great for over a week.
I tried that just now after having the Tablo unplugged for a day. It said connection to my network was successful, started a loading screen and ended up with Failed.
*** I looked up my purchase date and it was September 2024. It’s still under warranty so I will proceed to get it replaced.
When mine has excessive buffering and seems to slow down, a short press of the reset button (on the bottom of the Tablo) usually fixes the issue for me.
Absolutely agree! What a nightmare this piece of crap is! I won’t even bother listing the issues I have run into trying to get this thing to work because the list is too long. It’s one issue after another! It’s going back to Best Buy and I am also going to talk to a Best Buy manager and strongly suggest they remove this crap from their shelves!
Hello and welcome to the community. It’s too bad that this has been happening over the past month to many who have just purchased their device.
There has been some good progress made on reliability and Guide accuracy.
I know the device requires some user knowledge and more configuration and troubleshooting than just about any other device. But if you keep it, please let us know what issues you’re running into.
Usually, reception and network are the largest sources of problems. If you can optimize these two things, you should skirt most issues.
It’s the Roku that’s trash the tablo works just fine if you know how to configure your network if you sell out by buying cheap crappy devices like Roku and fire sticks you’re going to have problems
It’s not reception or network issues. I used to be a Network Admin. and a computer programmer…so I am well versed in all things technology. This is a very unreliable product that is in it’s Beta stages at best and should not be sold on the shelves of major retailers like Best Buy at this time.
Never heard of Tablo devices until a few weeks ago when I decided I had enough of YouTubeTV’s never ending price hikes for a streaming service I only pay for 2 channels. So, I purchased the Tablo Gen 4 from Best Buy and what a NIGHTMARE! Totally unstable and full of bugs almost everytime I use it! Constantly losing guide data, not able to tune to channels I know my antenna is able to pull in…just not worth the aggravation and it’s going back to Best Buy!
For me I have stuck with it for over a year and a half and it only didn’t record twice. The last month has been crazy with the guide but since I had the three summer shows scheduled they recorded. If I had brought it this past month I probably would of returned it too.
I use my Nvidia shield which granite is an expensive box but I also use the onn 4K Plus and what’s been suggested in the previous comment the pro is good too any good Android TV box or Google TV box will work better than Roku or fire stick I can’t believe anybody still uses a fire stick that know something about these devices
