Tablo fails to run on latest Kindle Fire HD7 OS update

The model number is Fire HD 7 (4th generation).
Current OS 5.1.1
Tablo App Version 1.1.2.0.56

The app loads and shows the live TV guide and the recorded shows (without the total number of shows recorded).
After choosing a live channel to watch the screen goes blank (black) but the functions around the edge of the screen still show up. After choosing a recorded show to watch the screen stays black but the functions around the edge of the screen still show up.

The 4th gen Fire HD appears to be the only one having issues with the Tablo app since the Fire OS update. So far we haven’t been able to reproduce this. Apparently the Amazon account management site allows you to roll back the Fire OS on your tablet to a pre-5.0 version. We recommend this workaround for the time being.

You’re going to love this.

Me: Ever since the Fire HD7 (4th generation was updated) I can’t use the Tablo app to control my Tablo. The Tablo site has the following:

Nemlucy: Hello, this is Lucy from Kindle support. I’m sorry to hear about this. I’ll be glad to help you.
I understand that you would like to rollback the device operating system, is that correct?
Me: That is the recommendation by the Tablo help desk
And then I would like to not have automatic updates
Nemlucy: Let us see if your device supports the rollback. Allow me 2 to 3 minutes.
The device in question is “Bruce’s Fire” right?
Me: Yes
Nemlucy: I checked and see that your device is running 4.5.5. And does not have the rollback feature.
Me: I think it is actually running 5.1.2 updated automatically yesterday.
Nemlucy: May I know the source where you downloaded the Tablo app?
Me: From the app store
Nemlucy: Okay
Me: There are two versions, I selected the second version with the larger icon. The first version says it doesn’t work with my device.
Nemlucy: As per my record, your device is showing as OS version 4.5.5. and does not have the option to rollback. It seems the Tablo website is not detecting your device OS accurately. In this case, as it was downloaded from our appstore and suppose to work with your device. To see if there is any work around to make it work, is it okay if I transfer the chat to our appstore team?
Me: okay
Nemlucy: Please stay online while I transfer.

Oh I see
Please contact the developer http://www.nuvyyo.com/
Me: What would they do?
~Shirley: They might help with any way to stop the version being moved back and forth.
Otherwise it is best to transfer to the Kindle software team that can help with the issue.
Me: It’s not the Tablo version; it’s the Amazon Fire OS version

Amazing. I hope the Nuvyyo folks have some leverage with Amazon, but I doubt it.

Isn’t outsourcing marvelous?

“We hope you will enjoy the Fire OS 5 update, but if you want to go back to Fire OS 4, you can choose this option from Manage Your Content and Devices. Select your Fire tablet from the Your Devices tab and select “Reset and Downgrade to Fire OS 4” in the Device Actions drop-down.”

But then there is no “Reset and Downgrade to Fire OS4” option on the pulldown menu… only thing close is “Remote factory reset” which I am reluctant to do because it may just leave me with a useless brick.

My only hope is that the Nuvyyo guys can find a way to fix the app to run with OS5 on my Amazon device.

@oldguy Yikes, sorry to hear you had such a tough time there! We’re going to try testing this on our end to see if we can recreate your issue, or find a work around.

Thanks, there are two Tablo apps available from the Amazon app store. One is “Tablo for Amazon Fire TV” and that one cannot be installed. You get a message: “Tablo for Amazon Fire TV is incompatible with your device. You cannot purchase this app from this device.” (Fire HD7 - 4th generation)

The other app is simply named “Tablo” and that one can be downloaded to the Fire HD7 - 4th generation. It will load; it will show the live TV schedule, it will show recordings, it will show Prime Time. What it will not do is play either live TV or any of the recordings. It attempts to load and shows it is buffering and then … nothing.

I was coming to see if there was any news on this. My HDX 8.9, 4th gen, still doesn’t work with the Tablo app. The truly goofy thing, however, is that if I try to play live tv, or a recording, and nothing happens on the tablet… if I hit the “cast” button, my ROKU picks it up via Miracast, and it plays. (Discovered this by accident.)

So I can cast it from my Fire HDX, but I can’t play anything on the tablet itself. Frustrating.

I’m trying to figure this out, too. Any word on when the app will work on a Kindle Fire HD?

Wanted to share that, for my HDX 8.9, I was able to get things working. The app from the Amazon app store does not work, HOWEVER, I downloaded the apk from 1 Mobile Market, and surprise! That version works!

Another case of having to side-load a current app from another place, instead of Amazon’s hopelessly outdated store. Anyhow, if you’re having problems, give it a try.
