I got a message saying no storage available on my Tablo Quad. I cleared up about 1TB of storage and the display showed 1TB available. It then started recording successfully. However a day later it now shows no storage connected. At startup there is noise coming from the unit which sounds like it is trying to access the WD hard drive. I suspect a bad HD but decided to call support to see if there was a way of telling if the HD was bad or if there is something wrong with the Tablo trying to access the HD. After going through some useless reboots they told me they would send me an email explaining steps. That was apparently a lie since I never got an email. Wondering if anyone knows of anything to check or if I need to buy another HD and hope that was the problem.
It certainly sounds like the harddrive is going bad. However, if you have a spare harddrive to USB cable you might try that before buying a new drive. If you don’t have a spare cable just make sure the current cable is properly connected at both ends.
Sorry you’ve run into that @DGK .
Would you DM us the email address you used to contact support and the ticket number you received? Do so and we’ll look into it.
I am having the exact same problem with my Quad 4. It started 4 days ago (Feb 7). If I unplug the Tablo and then plug it back in, it will then find my recordings, but the next day I have the same problem. Some of the new recordings will show, but when selected there is no data. Tablo Support (in India) was no help at all. I don’t know if it’s a Tablo problem or a hard drive problem. I have a 2TB drive installed in my Quad 4.
You might try a new or different power adapter. A failing power adapter has been known to cause these types of problems in the past.
I didn’t email support, I called the 844 support number. I called on 2/4 at 4:11. I was on the call about 36 minutes and talked to Jacob. He was obviously new and didn’t know much about the product. I was hoping to talk to somebody knowledgeable since I was getting very specific details while booting up. I thought they could tell me what was going on internally and help determine the cause. I was disappointed that they told me that they would send a followup email and never did.
@DGK
We were able to find the ticket and have escalated it.
You should be hearing from a support agent soon.
I experienced a similar problem with my external storage. I have a 4-tuner legacy box with a 2TB WD drive and our scheduled Sunday Night (2/9), Monday morning recordings didn’t show up. All indications were that the items were properly scheduled and they had been working properly for years. I waited till another scheduled task was occurring, and although the “recording now” notation was appearing, the actual file was not present in the “Recent Recordings” listing. When I accessed the event from the live broadcast screen, it would only start at the current time (not the beginning) and could not be rewound from that point. I then (on Tuesday) reset all of the scheduled events in the live TV listings (24 hrs) by toggling the record setting. All of my scheduled recordings are now being completed and everything seems to be back to normal.
P.S. All of these machinations included numerous hard resets of the tablo unit and re-establishing the HD connection. The settings screen displayed the HD’s presence and memory usage almost every time, although it was showing no storage at one point on Tuesday.
I have a similar situation. I bought a 4th gen quad a few months ago. Yesterday, I reconnected my legacy unit and deleted all but 1 of the recordings that were on it. This morning, I went to watch a program that was scheduled to record this morning (it was on the list of recordings). Clicked play, and it said it didn’t record because there was no storage available. Tried to view the recording that I had kept, and it also said there was no storage. Went into settings, where it says there is no storage. What’s the deal?
I ended up replacing the hard drive and everything works again. It is suspicious that everything runs fine until a large delete occurs. Sounds like that is what you ran into also.
That was exactly what happened, though mine wasn’t near as full as yours. I had connected Gen 4 Quad last fall, which was why my legacy unit was disconnected, so I don’t know how much I want to invest in this unit. I also found that the recording I was keeping is available to rent.
