So Far, NOT so Good

Thats odd for sure.  so @snowcat are you thinking the breakdown here is with wifi and neighboring channels?

@millerprm - any chance you have an android device and can get Wifi analyzer going? if so you can see how crowded the different channels are on both spectrums.  This will help you pick a better channel

There is no central server that all the Tablo users are hitting during the day, unlike Netflix and WatchESPN.   But there definitely could be wireless activity going around millerprm (especially in a city as big as LA) during most of the day that interferes with his network.

@snowcat thanks for the link!  will read after work

@pix64 i have an android phone (but no tablet) so will see if there’s an app

once again thanks for the support!   u guys are smart!

@snowcat and @pix64 you are not smart, you are brain surgeons!

pix64 i downloaded  wifi analyzer and found out the signal for the channel the router was set to was cr@p.  so snowcat i took your advice and changed the router channel to the one with the strongest signal.  it seems tablo is purring now!

I will watch for errors over the next few days, but believed you Einsteins solved the problem.  can’t thank you enough!

That’s awesome! Glad we could point you in the right direction.

Glad you got it worked out @millerprm it’s easy to blame the new device that you just added, but just like myself I had network device overload on my router and I also had Wi-Fi connectivity issues on a recalled AppleTV 3. Cut the cord!

Glad that worked, millerpm!

Thanks @snowcat & @PiX64 for helping @millerprm

I HATE to even have to type this out loud, but the loading, please wait error is BACK after 1 day!

I checked my router channel with the wifi  analyzer and the channel signal (6) is very strong,  i downloaded the new firmware and removed and added my roku channels, re-started everything and i still get the loading issue.  the web app has issues with playback as well.

one again, am open to any suggestions…

I’m having a similar problem. When I watch live TV in the evening after work, everything seems perfect. In the morning, when I have the news on before work, I keep getting the “loading, please wait.” Very annoying. And in case anyone wonders, I set my record quality back to 720p.

@MsMetaP  the last i heard from tablo support was that tablo and my router don’t play well together and i should try a 5GHz channel on my router.  of course my router is old and only has 2.4Ghz channels.  ATT has agreed to replace my old router.  if you look at a few of the older posts form snowcat and pix64 they talk about changing your router channel.

Not too hard. i would recommend looking at your router manual (can be found online) and downloading wifi analyzer if you have an android device. then go to icon left of wrench (uppper right corner) and chose channel rating.  it goes by stars and it is easy to see which channel is the strongest.

My 4 tuner model works perfectly…I love this product

If my 2 tuner worked i would love this product too.

@millerprm are you getting a new router? I am sad to hear yours is not working. Mine works really good, I have the 2 tuner version also. But I am using an Airport Extreme router and had to set the mac to get the same IP Address and then forward the ports to that IP

Thanks @millerprm I will look into this IF I decide to keep the Tablo. Right now I’m about ready to ask for a refund. Last night I set my Tablo to record a two hour program. I was not watching anything on Tablo nor recording anything else. Tablo crashed and I got five minutes of the program. This isn’t going to work for me. There were no storms. Nothing going on. Tablo simply crashed and rebooted itself for no discernible reason. I was willing to work through the set up challenges. Even sent back the first hard drive and got a new one. But if the thing is this unreliable it’s not for me. Uverse has become too expensive for me, but I can go back to plain old cable.

@ MsMetaP  I can sympathize, I wanted very much this to work, but I ended up doing a return.  This is the kind of product that really needs to be solid before launch AND any updates cannot break things.

I had a Tivo, and the monthly was just too much.  Tivo has it’s issues as well, but nothing like this.

Currently, I have a lower power computer with Windows Media Center that will work, it’s just a bit clunky.

The Channel Master DVR+ would be my next best.  It has some issues, but nothing that I saw about not recording/messing up recordings.  Only thing is, it’s only good on one TV and I don’t see mobile stuff for it.  But you don’t pay for the guide either.

Hope Tablo gets it together, it’s something with great potential.

@jestep short version is i am getting a new router and it’s from another provider.

after talking with ATT (who sent me a new router that is no different from the old one.  geez!) support i found out in my specific area the are NOT supporting 5GHz technology and have no plans to upgrade anytime soon.  i talked to tech support at time warner and they DO support dual band 2.4GHz and 5GHz routers in my area so i am going to switch carriers.

tablo support suggested trying tablo on a 5GHz channel, but that wasn’t an option for the above reasons.  the bad news is there were no available appointments until the 23rd of july to install things.  so, it will be another 9 days before i am able to see if the new router and 5GHz channels will help with my tablo issues.  of course will post an update at that time (and keeping my fingers crossed.  i REALLY would love to use tablo!)

@millerprm ah, I never use the providers routers, or have never. I usually use my own and only use the providers as the way to connect to the internet. And even with Time Warner I bought my own modem and use an Apple Airport Extreme for my wifi.

Just a thought, you may want to think about that, I know that is a cost, but then you can change providers with little to no change in wireless setups.

@jestep i wholeheartedly agree with you, but wanted to change providers asap and didn’t have time to price anything before signing up (and i have heard that provider routers are never brilliant… typed with dry delivery).  should have done it the other way around!   anyway, i do plan to price modems and routers with similar or better specs so i can make a change in the near future.  thanks for the advice as it’s always welcome and almost certainly something i don’t know!

@VegasSteve I received my Tablo 2-tuner today and wow, I can already see I am headed towards a return. This is an alpha product. It has so much promise but so many things are broken and/or downright primitive (like the Roku app)… Low Wife Acceptance Factor, I am not even going to show it to her. BTW I am a highly skilled IT professional.
