Do any of the boxes handle previous aired program to not record?
When you are in the program guide for the show, set it to record “New Episodes” and it will not record previously aired episodes.
This does depend on the metadata from the EPG provider. Sometimes (rarely) it does mess up.
In the settings under “Smart Scheduling”, checking the “Don’t Record Duplicates” box might also help.
