When I record several different channels that transmit in different scanning modes, 720p or 1080i.
And I know what type of scanning they use, will the Tablo play those different types of scan modes automatically in their perspective scan mode on playback of those recordings?
It depends on what recording quality setting you are using. If you are at the highest quality setting, 1080i shows will be recorded at 1080p, and 720p shows will be recorded at 720p@60 frames per second.
Anything other setting records everything at that setting (1080p - 8 Mbps, 720p - 5 Mbps, 720p - 3 Mbps, and 480p - 2 Mbps). You can also have you live TV quality at a different setting if you wish.
So let’s say you have it set at 720 - 5 Mbps (the so called recommended setting). 720p channels are recorded almost natively (still some loss), while 1080i channels are downconverted to 720p.
If you have it set at 1080 - 8 Mbps, 1080i channels are converted to 1080p, while 720p channels are upconverted to 1080p.
It will be limited to the setting Recording Quality:
Under General on the setting tab I suspect. Although it’s unlikely to upscale, set to the max it shouldn’t downscale either.
