I have enough series recordings programmed now that I am know starting to get conflicts…and I have a four-tuner. Every other DVR I have ever had has offered a way to prioritize recordings so if it couldn’t record everything, it knew which one you wanted most and which you were willing to skip.
I can’t find a way to do that on the Tablo. Is it possible, and I just can’t find it?
Tablo, if this is not possible, please add it to the feature request list. Also, can you tell us how it does prioritize by default? If I had to guess, it seems to do it simply by date added to the scheduling list by the user.
I believe this is true. Tablo does not have an automated recording priority feature; instead, it prioritizes recordings based on the order they were scheduled first. If a conflict arises where multiple shows need to be recorded simultaneously but there aren’t enough tuners, the Tablo will record the ones that were scheduled earliest and will skip the ones scheduled later
That is what I thought. I like to keep some old sitcoms in my library so I have something mindless to put on in the background while tinkering, but some of these are aired 20 times a day on channels like MeTV. I don’t want to remove it from my schedule, but if it misses an episode or five I don’t care.
So, it sounds like if I delete it and re-add it to the schedule it will drop to the bottom of the priority list. I would still get some conflicts, but the ones to drop off would be the shows I don’t care about, so it wouldn’t require any further action on my part. Right now I have to manually go in and delete the episodes in conflict so I don’t miss the more important stuff.
I suppose I could do that, but I don’t think it is necessary. If I did, I would have to remember to switch back and forth between Tablos in the settings. Seems like a bother. That would be a great solution if you have two Tablos sharing one Library display.
It happens so rarely, that just deleting and re-adding the low priority programs should be enough. Maybe someday, Tablo with allow you to prioritize records, even if it just provided a pull-down list when setting up recording that offer, Priority Selection: High-Standard-Low. I think that would solve 90% of the issues.
I’ve requested a Priority List as well.. And yes, I’ve run into the same issue, and as you noted, the only way now is to delete the low-priority programs and then re-entering them.. Not difficult, but a bit annoying to have to do sometimes…
It would really be a nice feature though, and I really like your High-Standard-Low selection thought…
