Own the old 4 Tuner Tablo? Will you buy Tablo QUAD Over-The-Air (OTA) DVR?

I’ve looked a little at HDHomerun, but they seem to be still working their way towards being Roku compatible, and I really like my Roku t.v. ; maybe another reason to wait on an OTA DVR/tuner. Also ATSC 3.0 is coming, but it’s hard to understand how long that will be to really mean anything and how long we’ll be on 1.0 and 3.0 concurrently; what equipment replacement choices we’ll have and their costs. That whole 3.0 thing is a mystery to me.

HD Homerun though demonstrates much quicker on Youtube videos than what I saw with Tablo.

That’s because of a fundamental difference between most (excluding the HDHR Extend) HDHR devices and Tablo, the HDHR devices initially record at the native MPEG2 whereas the Tablo does the transcoding during the initial recording. The Tablo delay you see is the time it takes to initially transcode and fill the playback buffer.

Roku devices running Roku firmware version 9.0 or later are compatible with HDHomeRun tuners. More info: https://info.hdhomerun.com/info/roku

You would need a faster network connection than you would with a Tablo though.

ATSC 1.0 will be around for at least the next 5 years. How much beyond that depends on the stations in your area. The first ATSC 3.0 compatible TVs sold in the US aren’t coming out until next year, and who knows how long it will take for DVRs to support it?

Exact same experience here! The upgrade to a Quad fixed all my tuner overdriving issues (ie. 5 green dots = pixellation).

The scans and rescans are clean and consistent on all channels and no more drops of any kind, well pleased so far after a week.
