NEW - Tablo Firmware Release 2.2.42

Hi there Tablo family!

A new Tablo firmware update is on the way for network-connected Tablo DVRs.

(This excludes the Tablo DUAL HDMI and Tablo QUAD HDMI).

Like all Tablo firmware updates, this is being distributed in a staged rollout over the next few weeks. A small number of customers will receive the update today, with more added to the rollout every weekday.

This firmware update is now available to all network-connected Tablo users.

When your DVR is eligible for the update, a notification will pop up within most Tablo apps and will look like this:

Here’s what you can expect:

Release Notes for Tablo Firmware 2.2.42

• Improvements for Tablo Connect setup via iOS and tvOS
• Improvements to ensure subscription status retention in the event of back-end server outages
• Bug fixes and performance improvements

The privacy policy regarding the device and viewing data your Tablo DVR shares with us has been updated. Please see visit Tablo Privacy Policy | Over The Air (OTA) DVR | Tablo for details.

NOTE: Post-upgrade database processes (if needed) may take several minutes to complete. During this time the LED will be blinking. Do not power down the Tablo until the LED is solid again.

About This Release
Along with some tweaks that should help with setup of Tablo Connect on Apple devices and to help preserve subscription status during server slowdowns or outages at Tablo HQ, the other big change in this release is a new SETTINGS menu toggle for viewing data and a related update to our privacy policy.

Once you update to 2.2.42 you can enable or disable the sharing of viewing data with us within the SETTINGS screen of most Tablo apps under ABOUT> VIEWING DATA.

Apps that will show this new toggle are as follows:

  • Roku
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Android TV
  • Apple TV
  • iOS
  • web app

Apps that will NOT show the new toggle are:

  • Windows 10 app
  • Android mobile app
  • Samsung Smart TV app (no longer being updated)
  • LG Smart TV app (no longer being updated)

The setting is global so it does not need to be adjusted on every app if you choose to change it.

While we may share this data with trusted partners for operational reasons, we still do not and will not sell your information to third-party data brokers. That hasn’t changed.

With this update we will now start collecting additional data around viewing habits on your Tablo like whether you watch more live TV than recorded TV or are viewing at home or remotely and the types of programs being viewed.

Like the basic device-level data we already collect, it will be viewed in aggregate and used to monitor interactions of Tablo DVRs with apps and infrastructure at Tablo HQ and to make overall business decisions.

The exception is information accessed by our support team on your behalf to assist you with troubleshooting and subscription account inquiries or to improve your experience with our apps or our websites.

If you have trouble connecting to your Tablo after the update, wait 10 minutes, then reboot the Tablo and try again.

No issues.

Could you elaborate How we get to “Manage” viewing data? The graphic suggest there may be options to manage as to what what is shared.

While the support article tells if for enable or disable sharing

you can enable or disable the sharing of viewing data with us with out

This article describes data well beyond anything you get from devices in our homes.

Your image where captured on CCTV at any of our premises.
Time spent at our premises.

So if I disable this setting, you won’t save my image? Or is that one we can’t control?

Right, the setting is “viewing data” …the article with information is about a whole bunch of unrelated gobbledygook. So is this a feel good :heavy_check_mark: ?

Successfully installed. Looking good.

The prompt popped up to update firmware to 2.2.42 and I chose “Later”.
How do I update?
Thanks!

The next time you open the Tablo app it should ask again if you want to update. Also, depending on what device you are using to access your Tablo, most apps have a place on the Settings tab to click to take you back to the update page.

Thank you for the reply, not 100% convinced that’s the case. I’ve re-opened Tablo app on NVidia Shield connected to Sony TV where popup first occurred. Even tried a a quick boot, no luck.

As a separate event I was watching on Win 10 Desktop Tablo app and the recording kept knocking me out of the Tablo app. I fired up Win 10 app three times as it kept crashing and each time the firmware app popped up but i was intent on trying to make it through the recording and hit “Later” each time. Now it does not pop up on Desktop app.

Watched TV on iPhone Tablo app, no pop up.

On the TV Tablo app is does indeed have a place in settings to check for firmware update (mine is currently 2.2.40) but when have it check for newer firmware update it answers it’s up to date.

I suspect its a push signal from Tablo to a limited number of users to ensure release does not issues with majority of customers. It will probably pop back up in a few days…

Installed successfully, no issues seen so far.

Unless you plan a trip to our HQ, that portion of the privacy policy does not apply to you so fear not.

Just a question about the last digit of these versions.
Is it always an even number?

I seemed to remember that odds are beta/test and evens are released.

In the U.S. probably even numbers. In Canada who knows. It could a metric or Imperial version number system. Loved those Imperial gallons.

Yes indeed, our production builds are always even numbers.

Is there anything more specific to what we can manage? Or is the extent of the management just checking or not the box?

And vaguely - we may still collect some stuff we decide we need to. Checking this allows us to not have you collect information you may not need.

Cool, it’s not even like you had a Terms or Licenses agreement when I first used my device, even by breaking the seal on this box you agree to our terms. So users never had to agree , other than subscription terms possibly if applicable.

Why after installing this new firmware it asks to “get started”? It asked to load your local channels for my zip code but then it said no channels available to check my antenna. I closed App and restarted and all is as it should be. Just a scary thing in the beginning like I was required to do an entire set up again.

No issues with this latest update and thank you for the continued support…

Keep up the good work…

No issues here on either of my units.

Why don’t you go into the settings menu and see what your subscription status is.

Check the USB cable between the Tablo and the HDD and the power to the HDD if externally powered. Also consider rebooting/restarting the Tablo and HDD: start with the Tablo by pressing the blue button (if a networked Tablo) and as soon as it starts rebooting remove the power from the Tablo, unplug the HDD (if externally powered) and wait 10-15 seconds, then plug in the HDD, then plug in the Tablo.

I lost all of my previously recorded shows only newly recorded shows after the update are able to play
