NEW - Fully-Refactored 4th Generation Tablo Apps for Samsung TIZEN and LG webOS (v. 2.0.6)

Hi folks -

Tablo device owners can soon enjoy fully refactored and updated 4th Generation Tablo apps on their Samsung TIZEN and LG webOS smart TVs.

These apps have been rebuilt from the ground up to improve navigation and performance and add many features, including the new Record Live feature.

Over the coming weeks, compatible Samsung TIZEN and LG webOS smart TVs with automatic updates enabled will receive the new app.

The app will not be available immediately for all supported models.

Here’s what you can expect:

Tablo App for Samsung TIZEN and LG webOS Smart TVs (4th Gen) Update – (v. 2.0.6)

  • Fully refactored Tablo app for improved navigation and performance
  • Adds new screens/features including:
  • Adds details and troubleshooting help to connectivity screens
  • Adds play vs. OK remote functionality to all live airings
  • Adds Audio Compatibility Mode setting to default to stereo vs. surround sound

  • Many other bug fixes and performance improvements

About Record Live

The new Record Live feature allows you to start recording the live TV channel you’re currently watching without returning to the guide.

Users can access the new Record Live button within the In-Player Content Tray, making it easy to start recording a live program without missing a single second.

To access the new button, simply select down ( ↓ ) on the directional pad of your Samsung or LG remote while you’re playing live TV.

This will allow the In-Player Content Tray to appear. The RECORD button is located to the right of the PLAY/PAUSE button.

Selecting it will tell your Tablo to start a recording of the program you’re currently watching.

When the recording has begun, the button will turn orange. Selecting the button again will end the recording immediately, instead of automatically at the end of the current program.

You can read more about this new feature and how it works on the Tablo Knowledge Base.

Availability and Supported TV Models

Over the coming weeks, the Tablo app will update to the newer React Native 4th Generation app on compatible Samsung TIZEN and LG webOS smart TVs with automatic updates enabled.

The app will not be available immediately for all supported models.

  • SUPPORTED SAMSUNG MODELS
    • The newer 4th Generation Tablo app will be supported on Samsung TV models manufactured in 2019 or newer running TIZEN 5.0+.
    • UPDATE SEPT 14 - The app is now available for all compatible Samsung TIZEN models.

KNOWN ISSUE FOR 2019 SAMSUNG MODEL YEAR OWNERS

We are investigating reports that a subset of 2019 Samsung television models are encountering an error with version 2.0.6 of the Tablo app, causing connection failures.

The error message will look like this:

Unfortunately, we do not have a workaround or solution at this time. A fix has been submitted to Samsung, and we are hopeful for a quick turnaround on approvals. Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve this.

  • SUPPORTED LG MODELS
    • We are awaiting LG’s approval to distribute the new app to compatible models.
    • The newer 4th Generation Tablo app will be supported on LG TV models manufactured in 2020 or newer running webOS 5+.

Unfortunately, LG smart TVs manufactured in 2019 running webOS 4 are not compatible with apps built using React Native. The current web-based version of the 4th Generation app will remain accessible for those users. A final update will be made available soon to include the side navigation menu and redesigned Guide and Library screens, but not all the new features mentioned above.

Don’t have the Tablo app yet? Not sure how to access apps on your smart TV?

On my 2019 Samsung QLED HDTV, the new 2.0.6.1 app freezes with a spinning circle whenever I select the Coming Soon and does not respond to any remote button presses. I reinstalled it, and it still totally freezes when selecting Coming Soon.

While watching a recording, I can skip, but if I skip too much or too fast the app freezes again with a spinning circle, but at least I can press the back button on the remote to get out of it.

Hi @DaWeav,

The product team is looking into this. Would you DM us your Tablo’s SID?

This was the best enhancements done for Samsung Tvs

  1. Recording option while program is going on it records from the start of the program
  2. triple fastforward and rewind
  3. Recordings exceeding 90 episodes showing up based on datetime descending order . Option avaliable most recent or entire scheduled Recording
  4. Offline view available to watch
  5. Featured , Favorite view

Wish list for future enhancements

  1. Switch automatically to 16:9 landscape mode for program OTA which are not landscape
  2. Have close caption available
  3. If increasing storage to a bigger capacity should be able to transfer those recordings example I have 2 TB storage I want to upgrade to 4 TB should be able to transfer once upgraded and recording from tablo should be able to play from library

Thank you for these fantastic enhancements we appreciate all that is done for new and existing customers, I am sure customer base is going to increase and your revenue is going to go up

UPDATE 5:50 p.m. ET - A fix has been submitted to Samsung, and we are hopeful for a quick turnaround on approvals.

My recordings keep pausing and getting stuck with a spinning circle. And live tv eventually keeps pausing and unpausing every few seconds. I’m hoping this fix comes soon and it will fix the trouble I’m having on my tv (2019 Samsung Q80r).

I am having the exact same issue. I also have a 2019 model, a QN65Q70R. Note that I am NOT having any issues when using the Android Tablo app on my Samsung phone, so I’m pretty sure the issue is with the TV app.

It looks like there was an update, but I could be wrong. Says was updated 9/17 on the app on my Samsung tv. Still having the same issues. Very disappointed, as I’ve had no issues that have really hindered my watching, until now. I can’t even get through a whole episode without multiple freezes (spinning wheel).

I’m also not having any issues on my iPhone or my Apple TV in my bedroom.

I am writing to report a technical issue with my Samsung TV when playing recorded content.

Specifically, when watching recorded episodes that are an hour or longer, the video freezes approximately two minutes in and displays a spinning loading circle. If I exit the video and select “resume,” it plays for another two minutes before freezing again.

This issue does not occur when watching recorded videos that are 30 minutes or shorter, and live video works without any problems.

I delete the app and reinstall it and have also cleared the cache.

Yes! This happened to me when watching a AFV recording last night! I also watch a half hour show and almost made it to the end before it gave me the spinning wheel again. Is anyone from Tablo going to respond to this issue or if the update has been pushed out or not? I thought I saw a new update, but the firmware number seems to be the same. Or is this a new issue altogether?
