New Class of Router

“A new class of Wi-Fi routers aims to solve that problem, and take the frustration out of setting up a Wi-Fi network for your home. Michael Brown reports for TechHive that these new routers blanket your home with Wi-Fi coverage using multiple access points.”

There is also a new type of router (MIMO) coming that can handle multiple streams simultaneously hardwarewise (up to six). The current one-stream-at-a-time router (though it appears to be multitasking) becomes a bottleneck throttling streaming and starving clients:

“You don’t really notice that the router is taking turns serving each device, other than perhaps seeing the effects, such as slower downloads and choppy video streams.”
