I have a problem with channels 23.1 through 23.5 in my zip code (87112). About a month ago they worked fine, but now I do a rescan and they don’t appear at all. The difference with my case though is that when I try to play one of the 23.x channels now, I get this message:
Playback Failed
Weak Signal
Retry?
Cancel
Choosing the “Retry” option just repeats the message.
These are the only channels that aren’t working. They do have 2 dots in the scanned list, so they weren’t strong to begin with, but they seemed to come in fine.
Have you tried just connecting antenna to your TV? What kind of signal/reception do you get that way? Two dots on the scanned list is very weak signal, so it may not be enough to maintain a solid connection. Do you have the Tablo’s built in amplifier turned on?
Does your antenna also have an amplifier inline or built in? Reason I ask is because I have both Gen4 and Legacy Tablo with an ONN amplifier before the split to my two Tablos. I have the Gen4 built in amp on but noticed sometimes it causes blips in the signal. Last night I had recorded a CBS show on both. The playback on the Gen4 (double amplified) started to pixelate and cut out several times. The playback on the Legacy was flawless. My next test will be turning the Gen4 amplifier off and see if this happens again as I may be getting conflicts between the built in and my ONN amplifier on the Gen4.
I tested by disconnecting the Tablo and connecting the antenna directly to a TV and did a channel scan from the TV. The channels in question did not appear in the channel scan on the TV, so it seems that I just don’t get a good enough signal from those channels any more. I am wondering whether something changed on their end because all other channels work just fine.
Reception can vary on channels with weak signals, so I doubt that anything changed to cause this. I have a few low powered channels that have intermittent reception. Some days they work, and some days they don’t. That is normal.
So today my situation is that I can watch the 23.x channels. But when I rescan, the 23.x channels don’t appear. I don’t want to save my rescanned channels because then I cannot watch the 23.x channels at all because they are simply not there in the channel list. So I would agree, it would be useful to be able to add channels manually.
Ok. Weird. I power-cycled the Tablo and did a channel scan again, and now the 23.x channels appear in the channel scan. So for now I guess this is resolved…
