Local channels disappear

My local channels all disappeared over the day yesterday. I have had a legacy tablo for years and habe been satisfied. The best I could figure was the broadcast towers went to MPEG-4 yesterday. I don’t mind buying a 4th Gen Tablo but I would have liked warning as I have to wait for it to be dekivered. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, if you have a 3rd gen or earlier Tablo, you will totally lose any channels that flip to the MPEG-4 video codec.

My market in Jackson, MS has one such subchannel, WAPT 16.6. I have a 3rd Gen Tablo and that channel flat out never shows in the channel list. However, it’s Home Shopping Network, so 99.5% of the audience doesn’t really care…

It would very unusual if they all flipped at once. This could be a power supply going bad or disk. Rescan and see what it picks up. You don’t have to save the rescan.

Of course you could say what city and channels you are talking about.

Or check rabbit ears. they are usually pretty accurate.

It would be unusual, if not illegal, to go 100% MPEG4. I believe that at least the primary x.1 channel must be MPEG2. And I doubt they would convert major networks like ABC, CBS, etc… MPEG4 is usually only used on subchannels, and often little-watched ones at that.

Yes, I highly doubt any major networks get moved to MPEG-4. THAT would get noticed very quickly with those of us with either TV tuners, internal and external, before roughly 2013 and those of us with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen Tablos.

I have two 720P HDTVs from 2009 I am trying to give away that show a blank screen on WAPT 16.6. I have to tell whoever gets the sets why that one subchannel cannot show a picture if they connect an antenna. I replaced them with much newer sets with 1080P resolution.
