Hello everyone. I’ve been using the Tablo since end of last year and I think it’s really good actually. The interface is excellent. It’s easy to use and I love how I can connect with my phone. But I did make a couple of modifications to improve the performance of the Tablo that I want to share. Let me know what you think.
I ordered a 5v usb powered fan with stand offs to provide cooling for the Tablo. It never overheats at all and performs great.
I also connected a 1TB 2.5” hard drive to it through a usb to Sata adapter for the external hard drive and that’s been working good too. Here’s a photo of the usb powered fan.
I might make a YouTube video about this. I just suck on camera at the moment lol. But there’s things that you can do personally to make the Tablo experience better, not perfect, but better than the out of the box experience.
Like making sure your WiFi router is either A, a good router designed to handle multiple connections or B, properly setup so that these “smart connect” features are disabled so your router can utilize its devices traffic better. I find most people who have internet problems 90% of the time is just bad quality/old equipment or poorly configured equipment.
If you want to know more about the WiFi situation I’ll try my best to explain those details. Might need someone to translate my long winded explanations to something easy to understand. Tablo works good on a nicely setup WiFi router. It sucks really bad on old out dated routers or badly configured ones.
Of course my experience with Tablo isn’t perfect because some channels my Roku can pick up, the Tablo can’t pick up at all. But I’m just thankful I can record the local fox channel and get Seinfeld and I have nearly every episode downloaded now. Can’t believe that. And every tv in the house can connect to it no problem. (I have an ASUS RT AX56U with 20+ connections, smart cameras, smart plugs, smart tvs, phones tablets computers etc)
So let me know if you want to know some of those tips and tweaks.
