How a Simple Tablo Purchase Unravelled a Whole New World and Created New Habits

I’ve been converting a pretty massive library of 8mm, Hi-8, Super Beta and VHS tapes for about six or seven years, using typical tools of the trade (Roxio DVD plus, Vidbox, etc.). A few years ago I stumbled upon a fantastic little box on HSN called the Protis Media Recorder, which is great, as I can convert without a computer.

As an ancillary benefit, you can record to DVD, SD Card or USB Drive. The one I bought has a couple hundred hours under it’s belt as of now and still works well. I’ve been converting my library catch-as-catch-can, over the years, too lazy to make a dedicated project out of, due to the sheer volume.
