The MLB wildcard game(s) are on ABC (Detroit vs. Houston). It’s not showing up in my guide (Phoenix area). I have an old Tablo and I get around such issues by setting up a manual recording.
However, lately, my Tablo is acting a little weird, so I’m wondering if/when it dies, and I go to the gen 4, how would one handle the above scenario? It’s my understanding that gen 4 doesn’t allow for manual recording. Do you guys just record a bunch of what is showing on the guide and then try to remember which ones in which sequence to watch? With the buggy guide data, it seems they really should have a manual option, just IMHO.
You ask a very good question. I don’t have a problem with guide data, and even when their network goes down or I’m without internet myself, it has no problem recording. My guess is that it sets up a time slot for a channel and assumes it’s right until it changes.
What do you mean by “try to remember which ones in which sequence…”? There’s a date and time stamp right in recording list…
I’ve owned a gen 4 for a year and haven’t seen manual recording on roku or fire tv stick - yet. You will have to depend on legacy for now.
So what I mean by the sequence… The only workaround I see without manual recording is to record the sequence of shows that is showing at the desired time frame. Say the game runs from 1pm to 4pm and the guide doesn’t show the game, it shows regular programming. Say, Dr. Phil, The View, Price is Right during those 3 hours. So you record those and now you have to remember which was first, second and third in order to watch the game in the proper order.
I’ve had to do that, too. However, I choose to pick one show and extend it a few hours, then the whichever was on when that was done.
Still, with date and time in you Recent Recordings library, it wouldn’t be too hard to figure out…
The problem you have with that approach (sequenced) is that if the guide is really incorrect and you use the current guide information to schedule that easily can change when the guide problem is correctly and thus you lose your scheduled recording.
Oh, I didn’t realize you could extend a recording that far out. Much better, thanks 269587.
