Gen 4 Looping Live TV

My 4th Generation Tablo will loop Live TV content that was aired earlier in the day but not watched. This happens several times a week. The only solution is to reboot the Tablo. This never happened with my Tablo Quad HDMI.
Here is what happens:

  • I’ll watch WPXI Pittsburgh 11.1 in the morning. This problem might happen with other stations but we watch WPXI 95% of the time.
  • I’ll turn the TV off or watch non-Tablo streaming.
  • In the evening I’ll select Tablo, Live TV, WPXI and Tablo will loop a 4-second segment that was aired earlier in the day but not watched. The message “Timeout waiting for video data” will appear in the loop.
  • The looping happens on TLC, FireTV, GoogleTV, and Apple devices.
  • The only solution is to reboot the Tablo.
    Here is my setup:
  • Antennas Direct ClearStream 2V TV Antenna with Televes amplification.
  • Antenna located in attic.
  • 50 feet of RG6 cable.
  • WD Elements HD.
  • Orbi router.
  • My WiFi signal is excellent.
  • My Antenna signal is green.
  • Tablo amplification is turned off.
  • Fresh channel scan and guide update.
Here are the fixes that I have tried per Tablo suggestions. None of these worked:
  • Switched power supply and source.
  • Tried a new WD Elements HD.
  • Moved Tablo to a weaker antenna: Stellar Labs Omnidirectional Antenna. I tried this with and without Tablo amplification.
  • Direct Ethernet connection.
  • Clearing App cache and memory.

I assume you exit the Tablo app by using the back button and select YES, EXIT TABLO. Your description just stated that you just turn the TV off but you need to exit the TABLO app before turning the TV off.

please look at the error, buffering and skip back on one channel. You may be suffering the same problem. I have yet to figure out what causes it, but once it starts looping the only way to clear it is to power cycle The tablo.

I have tried both exiting and just turning off the TV and I get occasional looping with both.

It may be worthwhile to reach out to Tablo Support.

They should be able to investigate.

Yes,
I have had around 34 email exchanges with Tablo support starting on October 8. I have attempted the following fixes per their suggestions:

  • Switched power supply and source.
  • Tried a new WD Elements HD.
  • Moved Tablo to a weaker antenna: Stellar Labs Omnidirectional Antenna. I tried this with and without Tablo amplification.
  • Direct Ethernet connection.
  • Clearing App cache and memory.

None of these solved the problem.

if you’re having the same problem I experienced with constant looping The same segment on a live TV

I am convinced that this is a handshaking issue between the Tablo firmware and the Roku app only while watching LiveTV. It is not related to signal, bandwidth, or liveTv channel. Recording and playback is not affected.

The Roku App is requesting the Tablo to give it the next segment of Live TV for a specific channel and the Tablo Firmware is stuck repeatedly sending the same segment. Switching channels will not clear the problem when you switch back. Other channels aren’t affected.

however, replugging the device will cause it to reset and correctly resume live TV on the problem channel as if nothing that ever happened without pushing any other buttons.

therefore, this problem is with the Tablo firmware getting discombobulated For a live TV channel. New Tablo firmware will eventually it.
