TV/app: LG OLED w/WebOS
Gen 4 Tablo updated to latest fw 2.2.58
I am relatively new to Tablo, but Verizon is pulling the plug on my cable cards and my Tivo doesn’t support OTA, so here we are. In trying to get things working smoothly, I have worked around some of the quirks (for example: no 30 sec skip is annoying, so I programmed a button on my Harmony Ultimate to do three 10 sec skips in a row when the custom button is pressed).
One thing I have not been able to resolve, though, is that when I hold down the right direction button on the directional pad to forward 10 secs, it does continue to skip ahead with repeated 10 second increments, but that’s it. Holding it longer doesn’t continue to speed it up, nor does repeated key presses. Also, if you stop holding the button it stops forwarding (many apps allow it to continue until you interrupt it). This seems to behave the same in other apps/TVs as well.
Has anyone found a workaround or customization for this? It’s very tedious if trying to forward through a longer program (awards shows, football games, movies, etc.)?
Alternatively, has this been addressed in the beta version(s)? I signed up for that but haven’t heard back.
No, the LG remote that came with the TV does not have that type of button - only the directional pad right/left/up/down. I was going to test it on my Samsung TVs but both are apparently too old. One doesn’t have the Tablo app, and the other only has the old Tablo app that doesn’t work on Gen4. I updated both of those TVs but no newer app options so I can’t test there.
I checked the Harmony remote software, and interestingly the Harmony remote has a FF button programmed to FastForward (LG TV) which works on other TV apps (multiple levels of fast forward including very fast) but does nothing in the Tablo app for the LG TV.
Not that it helps you, but on the chromecast app, if you hold down the right part of the circle on the chromecast remote, it starts FF’ing pretty quickly and then it speeds up super fast.
I got an email about new features and that some apps get those months before others makes me think that Tablo screwed up by going with the multiple app model instead of just having the unit plug into a tv and having the OS run on the device which would be the only software they would need to update. Of course then you would need a unit for each tv but we only have one tv we use the app on anyway.
