4th gen with Roku express
Had 12 hour power outage and 48 hour internet outage.
After power came back tried to go offline but it errored out after trying to access library.
Support says that Tablo must be online when internet is lost. When it powed back up it had no internet so while it offered offline mode it errors out unable to see library or live channels.
As this seems like a common scenario ie losing power first, it seems like a bug to me.
Is this on the radar for an update???
Off-line mode is a little clumsy, but it usually works okay for me. The menu screens look a bit different in off-line mode and that can be a little confusing.
Occasionally, if there is some sort of hiccup, it will tell you to go into off-line mode, but simply clicking the āBackā button will get it to open normally. Also, I have had a couple of times when I knew that my internet was down and Tablo didnāt offer off-line mode, and if it doesnāt offer it, you canāt get into it.
I do wish it gave you the option to force it into off-line mode if it fails to detect the need.
Seems like the best reason to have an offline mode is when you have no internet and would like to watch some recordings or a local signal. Yet the way it works is after a reboot ( ie after a power failure ) it needs to see the internet ( Tablo servers) for at least a little bit and THEN if the internet goes away you can go offline. Unfortunately the most common scenario is a storm knocks the power out and even after the power is back ( but before internet is back ) you want to go offline and it wont let you. just spent 2 days with no TV after a storm took the internet out. The priority was getting the power back which only took 8 hours.
Weāre working on it: https://support.tablotv.com/hc/en-us/articles/38166453010196-Using-Offline-Mode-on-4th-Generation-Tablo-Devices
One additional scenario could lead to a situation where Offline Mode would not be triggered, and temporarily disable your Tablo until it can regain an internet connection..
- Power Outage Followed By Internet Outage
When severe weather rolls through or you have a planned power outage in your area and your power goes out, your Tablo will reboot once power is restored. During the reboot process, it will reach out for the current time via your ISPās servers. If your Tablo cannot secure the current time, none of your applications will be able to access your Tablo until its internet connectivity is restored. Our product team is currently working on a solution that should allow Offline Mode to be triggered in this scenario.
Let the user manually select to go into Offline Mode.
This will allow us to continue to use our Tablos, while you guys figure out why they didnāt automagically go into Offline Mode.
Thank you. Looking forward to it.
They wonāt do that @Radojevic otherwise how they are going to mine the users that watch their streaming channels?
Fmas380, I canāt see people purposely using offline mode if online is available. I would be perfectly happy if offline mode just allowed access to previously stored content and that new storing would be disabled if Tablo felt they needed to discourage its continued use.
I just have occasions were the Tablo getās āstuckā because of an internet issue, but fails to offer off-line mode. If I could manually force it into off-line it would solve that problem.
Not often, but it happens.
Maybe a user selectable offline mode that only stays offline for a certain time, like 24 hours? After 24 hours the user would need to re-select.
My phone does something very similar when I turn off Bluetooth, it will automatically come back on the next day.
24 hours is more than enough. iād be happy with 4 hours at a clip. No big deal when you are starving for something to watch
