Can a portable hard drive be powered by Tablo? This would be a small WD elements drive of 2TB. Is there enough current in the Tablo’s USB port to power this drive?
Yes, been running a Seagate 2TB portable on my Tablo for 3 yrs. Would suggest that you get a $10-15 laptop cooler to put under Tablo. Been working fine for me for 3 yrs.
I’ve been running a Western Digital elements 2TB drive for over 2 1/2 years with no issue. It’s a small USB drive that gets power and data over a single USB port, powered by Tablo.
I’m glad to hear it works for so long. I’ve been running a WD Passport (1TB) for about 9 months. It doesn’t even have an external power supply as an option.
My cooling solution is a bit primitive. A couple of small (empty) tin cans put underneath the Tablo (painted black to somewhat “blend in”.
