Antenna Question

Yes, you can get a better antenna.  I bought one of these:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DHHMOUW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 from amazon.  It is an 8-bay UHF/HDTV antenna and works pretty well for me (I am 53 miles away in hilly country).

An engineer friend of mine built his own Gray-Hoverman design.  He used copper foil tape and aluminum foil on a styrofoam base, but there are many ways to build one.  Here is a link with video:  http://lanevids.com/2010/03/26/how-to-build-a-homemade-hdtv-antenna/

Good luck!

Sorry, I was wondering about recommendations for an amp. It is a directional antenna mounted in my attic about 20 feet above the ground. The channel I’m trying to get is UHF. I don’t know the model but it’s about 6 feet long, similar to this:

The only way I can make it higher is to put it on the roof.

Its UHF antenna only or is the balun UHF/vhf?

In any case I have had much success with the following amp. I like it a lot because yes it works but you can adjust the amount of amplification.

My comment made me think of this

@slick204  Here is another link to a Gray-Hoverman design.  This one can be used outdoors.  http://www.casano.com/projects/hoverman/

I decided to bypass all my splitters and go directly to the TV as a last shot but I still couldn’t pull in that station.
Thanks for the antenna advice, it looks like that’s what I need.

I got a Winegard HDA-200 distribution amp. It is an adjustable 24 dB Gain amp. This installs just before your spliters or Tablo/TV. If you have a long cable run from the antenna you may just need a pre-amp. I would try that first. The Winegard LNA-200. This is a 18dB gain amp with low 1dB noise. This will install right at the antenna before your cable run.

I use the Winegard LNA-200 as well.  Very low noise amplifier, and works very well in my setup.  I found that I didn’t need a distribution amp.

I have the Clear Stream 4V

I got the actual clear stream 4 from Bjs warehouse for 69.99 and got the VHF adapter/joiner from Amazon for 29.99.

Amazon at the time was selling the combo for 160. Its about what i paid for it now.

I really like it when i first set it up i put it in my attic with a cable from the antenna to the house spitter where ei took the line going to the table from my splitter and joined it. its pretty good i have a ton of channels available but i unchecked anything not 720p or above to help it load the guide faster especially since i won’t want to watch SD. i may need to get an amplifier because when my attic gets hot (FL hot and humid) the signal degrades, same with heavy rain, i rescanned and what was 5 green circles was now 3 orange and 1-2 red.

i don’t want to mount outside because looks and HOA actually so attic is my way. well see how it works after i get it.

HOA has no right to restrict an owner from mounting an antenna. FCC has ruled that an owner has the right to erect an antenna 15 feet above the roof line. Read what this home owner did to his HOA when they tried to prevent him from doing so (especially the last posts). He threatened to take them to court and the HOA backed down. After that the subdivision fired their property management company that had instigated this attempted restriction (without knowing the legal regulations and repercussions)!
