Legacy Tablo here trying the new generation Tablo app after the firmware update. Pretty interface, but slow performance compared to the old app. More importantly the new app does not show if there are unwatched versions of a recording on the tiles. Or am I missing something here? Seems like such a simple but necessary indicator. How do you know if there are new recordings to watch without this?

Hi @ajaxthedog89,
Under each series thumbnail you should see how many shows are recorded and how many of these are new.
There’s also a Latest category in the main library window which should show what’s recently been added.
Mine isn’t working properly I guess. Here’s what the new app and the legacy app show for /almost/ the same recordings. New app doesn’t show anything about unwatched, just a blank.
It seems the tiles are sorted differently too.

It looks like you’re using the Samsung app which uses an older 4th Gen interface.

Actually its an LG tv running web OS. TV is about 6 months old, new model, and I just downloaded and installed the tablo app so its not old.

If you select one of the series, does it show which recordings are new on the landing screen?
Unfortunately no it does not. This show, DI Ray, has 6 unwatched recordings. Nothing on either screen to indicate that.

My Tablo Legacy just quit after 10 years so I had to buy a 4th generation. I hate the app! It doesn’t show what is coming soon. It’s recently added has shows that are ancient. I don’t know why they couldn’t just keep it simple. I don’t know how well it records yet. I just set it up today.

By coming soon do you mean upcoming premieres or upcoming already scheduled recordings?
I totally agree! Tablo has screwed the pooch with this new app and the 4th gen device. I hate it. Never again will I buy a Tablo device. The older ones worked great and I could access it on my PC (which I do 30% of my TV watching on in an inset screen). My sister has a 4th gen and it is horrible. The interface is slow and clunky.
I also just got charged 49 bux for a year sub to the guide, but now being told no support after Sept 1st. Maybe time for a chargeback on my card.
I’ll use my old Tablo as long as it still works, but after that, Goodbye Tablo!

I agree. I have a legacy Tablo and have both apps. I hate the new app. I was going to upgrade the Tablo, but now I am not going to. I know that they aren’t going to continue to support the old app, so I am not sure what I will do when this one quits working. I am hopeful that they will update the new app with some of the older functionality and screens.

Long time legacy user. Howard; I don’t see why you hate the new app on a legacy Tablo. My “black app” is faster, better display, and just looks current — much better then the older legacy app. The ONLY feature missing due to technology is that my “commercial skip - grandfathered feature” is not available on it. So I will use the older app until the skip feature stops working. The new app is amazingly fast on my network. I am cat 6 fiber connected and don’t use wifi and never will.
ps- if you are having issues it must be something in your hardware configuration that differs from mine. I understand your frustration but having a GOOD OTA experience is vital for folks that want those channels and don’t want to pay for a ton of viewing subs. It might be worth a few dollars up front to “posture” your viewing hardware to work better with your Tablo. This is not all Tablo. If your configuration doesn’t play well with it would it be worth those few dollars to connect the Tablo using a proven method and simply enjoy your channels.
What app/device are you using gen 4 versus legacy.
I watch Tablo on a legacy quad cat 6 to my fiber with NEVER use of wifi. The hardware connects to Tablo using only Firesticks OR for my main it is a ONN google player running Android 14. Power user which won’t apply to the conversation here except that the ONN allows for some power user approaches to viewing and loading different apps. Because in general they work poorly I also won’t use an of my TVs to host the Tablo app. You have no control over the TV and generally the software just doesn’t stay current - its a problem you personally can’t resolve and need to rely upon the TV Manufacturer to “get around to it when they decide to” type thing. No thanks. By using a Firestick or ONN to host and deliver the Tablo android apk to the internet you get a good experience. Both of those devices tend to stay up to date and the Tablo team here seems to keep things working fine with those devices. Its a common use scenario and so development to “match the needs” as they come up get taken care of, at least as I can see it. Tons of TV brands with different software and such is a hassle to keep up with to me its not realistic to assume any company like Tablo will be able to have all their apps compatible with every creature out there. Using these two common devices takes the TV out of the loop completely. These devices just work and independently of whatever the TV software is.
Further; I have setup wireguard and "Vless + Realty vpns connecting to my two homes. It takes under a second to connect to either LAN and when I do Tablo is immediately connected and streams at many hundreds of meg so its as smooth as can be. I preach it here but “to me” it would be better if Tablo would abandon their old style of remote connect (truly a fossil approach) and better inform users of how easy it is for them to create their own way in and enjoy immediate jitter free connections from anywhere in the world. Truly I don’t need a 500+ meg connection to watch Tablo but I have one, LOL!
ps - I have No experience with Roku because they are completely incompatible with my use case scenario. I MUST have full sideloading available to do even the basic things I do. For an everyday user the Roku may be fine — no clue in either direction.

Isn’t the gen 4 ethernet port only 100 Mbps. And the max Mbps of a 1080i MPEG2 is only 12-15 Mbps. How do you get your tablo unit to “Tablo is immediately connected and streams at many hundreds of meg”
New tablo app on my phone does not allow remote connections like the old one does. That’s a major functional shortcoming for many people. New app still doesn’t show how many recordings there are or indicate watched/unwatched status. Same problem on multiple client devices and remains unsolved.

I can’t even get the old one to connect remotely today. Sigh.
