After 9 months with my Tablo... a rant

I had the same problem with speed and poor commercial removal. When I bought the donated version of comskip, that really speeded up the process. When I downloaded the latest beta donated version of MCEBuddy the commercials removal really got good. Now it almost never misses a beat and once everything is in the auto mode, I get far more content then I could ever keep up even if I watch 24/7.

Another option that somebody posted for me in the TabloRipper thread (along with Rodger’s suggestion for MCEBuddy) is CCExtractor:

I’ve had good luck with it so far and it’s pretty quick; I suppose there’s a way to automate it as well, but I haven’t got that far with it yet.

Good find.

Entitlement? I paid $400 for this and a hard drive. It’s not ā€œentitlementā€ to expect it to work. Why don’t you shut the hell up. It has nothing to do with you anyway. You are always in here being a jerk. You should have been banned long ago, but since you are a fanboy, it is allowed.

He was responding to me and I was speaking about things Tablo is working on and has said they are working on people are upset because they do not have it now. He was not speaking about the way the device currently operates

OK folks… name calling and accusing people of having multiple accounts just isn’t cool.

Let’s cease the hostilities.

Sorry… ā€˜suggesting’.

So… you’re suggesting that he wasn’t asking, but in fact accusing, someone of having two accounts?

Andre, you asked about alternatives. I generally avoid shilling for Tivo here; just doesn’t seem fair on this site, but do respond when it is asked. The new Tivo Bolt (I use is OTA only) has been perfect for a month, with three Minis to go with it The gig was that one cannot download from a Tivo unit; my question would be, why do it? Many are now ripping Tablo video to use Plex (I had to do that 100% or nothing at all to watch) as a work around. If the recording is good, and distributed throughout the house, why worry about ripping? Great picture, 5.1 sound, really good user interface / navigation. I keep monitoring here and when I see that Tablo has functional parity for the lower fee I’ll come back, until then I get everything I want from Tablo without the wait. As for portability, there are those with RSS feeds of their favorite shows to a Plex media server which is free. Remote live TV is not a biggie for me, maybe it is for some, but then I never had a good experience with remote Tablo, so a feature that is not offered is just as good as the same thing that doesn’t work.

THIS JUST IN. Got curious about the rumored phone app for the Bolt. Found it, installed it, and with wifi turned off am now watching any of my recordings in full resolution. So tried Live TV. It turns out it is not supported directly, but if there is a tuner free it will start a recording and then play the recording ā€œliveā€; about a thirty second delay. So now I actually have TV and recordings on my phone throughout the planet.

THIS JUST IN. I got to wondering about the status of the Android app. I had heard it was available for Roameo but not Bolt. But on line it indicated it was ready to go. Installed it, and with my wifi turned off watching any of my recordings in full resolution, smooth as silk, good sound. Tried Live TV. It turns out that it will not stream Live TV directly, but if there is a tuner available it will start a temporary recording and stream that, so it is ā€œliveā€ TV if you don’t fuss about a thirty second delay.

I’m glad oldmike is happy with his choice. I’m also glad he comes back to talk with us every once in a while. Personally, I have zero problems with other devices being used in place of Tablo. As long as people are getting what they want with any device, why would anyone be upset? Well, anyone except those manufacturing the different devices. I think it would be about the same thing if I were upset with someone using Comcast and all I can get is low speed DSL. It not so good for me and far better for them, but why should I not be glad for them?

I am pretty happy myself as I only bought Tablo for the ability to record 4 programs at the same time and to copy my content to my PLEX server. Well surprise! I never anticipate not having a backup system already built into tablo, or access to tablo’s hard drive, or at least ā€œnormalā€ file structure I could grab putting tablo’s hard drive on another computer. But, what would this world be without surprises – BORING!

But like I said, I’m pretty happy now that a few smart guys around here decided to help me out. And all of them did and if not for them I wouldn’t be very happy with my tablo I don’t think.

Yeah, play innocent. Everyone knows the truth. You should let TabloTV do their jobs and let people that need to vent and/or get help get it. You jumping in every other sentence to say how great your experience has been or attacking TabloTV’s other paying users does not help them get help.

I’m not taking sides in your particular dispute but @philsoft has helped members of this community. As one example:

"jwwhite0016h
Thanks Philsoft. I lowered my remote speed from 1 meg to 500 and that seems to work. I didn’t realize there was a setting for that. "

I’m sure you will do the same.

Please stop arguing. It bumps this thread to the top repeatedly and accomplishes nothing. I know you think you aren’t at fault, but anyone who continues to argue is at fault.
