Confused about signal quality...can't get 46-1 ION

If you are so happy with TiVo, post there. Please stop spamming this site with your posts about your negative experience.

Can’t a mod block this account already?

It’s not spamming. It’s helping what is true. Just trying help those who have a chance to return it and not stuck with this crap, that has so many problem…

If I can’t make it work, then return it.
Got it.
Thanks.

I know the feeling. Mine has been working every day for 3 yrs and 2 mths. It wore out the power supply last month so replaced it with one from Amazon for $10. Now waiting for the HD to go out - 2TB with only 500GB left. When it fills up I will throw it away and get a new one from Costco for $69. My estimated saving over this period is $3,000, But when it fails I will send it back to Tablo and ask them to replace it:grin: — for $300. :disappointed_relieved:

You went on a multi-post (across threads) worthless rage though. Had nothing to contribute but your biased view. You’re a spammer. You simply were not on a mission to “help” anyone. It wasn’t your goal.

Just to follow up on this topic again. Tonight I tried 46-1 and it is horrible. It pixelates like crazy and Tablo fails to live stream it. So from the Tablo, I cannot live stream 46-1 and watch that channel.

However, I did check my T.V. and 46-1 comes in perfectly fine. I check my T.V. signal quality and it’s at a “63” just like it was last time I took a picture of it (see above) when the Tablo was able to live stream it just fine!

In both cases, the signal strength reported by the T.V. is “63”, but tonight live stream from Tablo doesn’t work but the last time it worked fine. So, same signal strength, 2 different results trying to live stream from Tablo. What’s going on?

The only thing I can think of is that at the moment the Tablo (4 tuner) is busy recording 2 shows at the same time. So 2 tuner’s are busy recording. Then I tried to live stream channel 46.1 on a 3rd tuner…i’m guessing at this point the Tablo just doesn’t have enough signal strength left to that tuner since the other 2 are taking it up?

Signal strength does not tell you the whole picture. Signal quality (people tend to refer to this as Signal to Noise ratio, or SnR) is a key portion of that equation, but you have no way to take an objective reading of that with Tablo or most TV’s.

A clean signal and a noisy signal can have identical signal strength but a completely different signal quality. Things like LTE interference, harmonic signal interference, etc. can decimate your signal quality while having a signal strength that looks great.

I personally would try an LTE filter.

A while back I discovered a two-port passive splitter I had in my tv OTA distribution system was defective. The output on one leg was much lower than -3.5 db; almost an open circuit.

I have looked inside one such device and there is definite potential for a bad solder joint or a bad retainer for the coax center conductor.

If a split going to a tv seems better than one going to the Tablo, then it is worthwhile temporarily connecting the tv to the Tablo cable just to be 100% certain nothing is wrong with that feed circuit.

Finally, a 63 reading on my TV was a poorer reading on the tuner in my PC, seeming to confirm TV tuners on average are more forgiving than other types of tuners might be. Could be a result of greater numbers of TVs manufactured than PC Card or other types of tuners, perhaps due to greater investment and development of items with greater sales volume.

I looked up LTE filters and those seem straight forward. But the search also brought up MoCA and POE filters. what’s the difference?

The frequency range they block. You want LTE.

I think in this case POE was for Point of Entry.

Anyone have an LTE Filter recommendation? One that they have used and has worked well? On Amazon, this is the highest-rated and most-reviewed on: http://tinyurl.com/ycdqkr3a

Why does my signal strength of my digital antenna get worse in the day time as compared to late night

If you watch the documentary “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and read the Air Force’s Project Blue Book, radio and television transmissions are heavy affected during the night. That’s the prime time when alien spacecraft travel in the earths atmosphere. It’s also one of the few times you can get a sunburn during the night.

Suddenly I want mashed potatoes… but not to eat them…
